Bilbo 1.0 Released! (2/26/2002)
You're probably wondering what Bilbo is. Bilbo is a cute little program
that converts filenames. The purpose is archiving. The Joliet CD format
only allows for 64 character filenames. So, this little tool is
designed to convert a collection to Joliet format, but store the mapping
to get it back again. Do you get the name yet?
Go take a look at Bilbo.
More Layoffs and Still Employeed (2/26/2002)
That's right, My company just finished off it's third round of layoffs this year.
Once again, I was not among those asked to leave. Do you know my secret? I
own the company. Don't tell anyone though.
Most of us still left at the SF office signed one of the walls. The propaganda
was that the signature meant we were there to stay for the long run. Heck, we
were writing our name on the wall in permanent market. The more cynical like
to think of it as another $100 worth of work we need to sell to get the wall
repainted.
I've been doing a lot of work with Web Services at work. It's an amazingly
over-hyped technology that doesn't do very much right now. I've been trying to
think of a useful Chaos Corporation project for web services, but nothings come up
yet.
